August 2025
Happy August!
You may have noticed our absence in July, we missed you! The break was intentional to allow us to fully dive into farm projects and soak up all the glorious summer weather we have been having. We hope you too left July feeling recharged and ready to keep showing up. We hope to see you around the farm this month in whatever capacity you are able.
Come as you are and come hungry.
In July I turned 26. This month I reflected on 26 things that have fed me throughout my life.
Person, Plant, Place
Each month we highlight an incredible person, plant, and place! Keep reading to learn about this month's selection.
Our person of the month is Ariel! This amazing human volunteered with us for a month and we are so glad she could fit us in to her busy summer of adventuring! Her profession as not just a botanist but an awesome human gives her the unique ability to listen to the land and truly understand what it needs. It was a gift to get to watch her practice that with us at the farm.

Our plant of the month is Wild Blueberries! A wonderful source of food for all, our blueberry bushes have been producing a delicious amount of fruit this season. Wild Blueberries, or Low Bush Blueberries, have been around for thousands of years and through careful cultivation by Indigenous Nations they are still around and thriving today. If you want to try this delicious fruit we recommend purchasing some from The Passamaquoddy Wild Blueberry Company.
Our place of the month is Food Not Bombs! Food not Bombs is an entirely volunteer run organization that reaches and feeds people free veggie and vegan meal world wide. They are committed to taking non-violet direct action to protest war, poverty and the destruction of the environment. If you are looking to volunteer, donate, or simply eat this month we urge you to join Food Not Bombs.

Know Thy Shelf Book Club
All these stories broke my heart and then sewed it back up again. I hope they do the same for you.
I read these books on a bench along the Back Cove Trail, at the farm in a hammock, at Shaw Park with my toes in the water, and on my front porch. May I invite you to and recommend all of these spots for your own summer reading.
Upcoming Events
Last month we loved getting to know folks at Real Maine Open Farm Day and we are already looking forward to next year's event!
This month we are back to our regularly scheduled Community Farm Day and Dinner. We hope you will join us on Saturday August 16th from 2-6pm for a few hours of work followed by a few hours of dinner and chatting round the fire. Potluck style. Bring a dish of your own to share or contribute in a different way with non- alcoholic drinks, cutlery and plates, or a $5 donation.
Project of the Month
This month Hamish would love it if you could come help us with the following:
Weeding Weeding Weeding!
Harvesting (and eating) some of the delicious fruits and veggies that are ready.
Tearing down the old red house. This is a long term project to restore the original farm house built on the property in 1812.
If any of these projects spark your intrest please reach out to Molly!
